Boston Red Sox Organization Review

No premium picks. Tons of late value

Boston Red Sox Organization Review

Over the next three weeks, I will be publishing organization overviews for every MLB team. Each post will be a deep dive into all levels of the organization and picking out fantasy relevant nuggets. The primary focus will be at the MLB level and trying to uncover players I want to target in upcoming drafts, but I am playing in a few dynasty leagues and want to try to highlight some players to stash or keep an eye out for upcoming trades.

Picks For 2023

Players I like in fantasy drafts given their current price. All ADPs are from the last two months of NFC data.

Justin Turner (ADP: 245) - Turner leaves LA for Boston where he projects to be a staple in the middle of the order. At his price, his consistency, and his projected lineup spot, Turner is a slam dunk option at this stage of the draft.

Garrett Whitlock (ADP: 289) - He's in a competition with Brayan Bello for the last starting spot, but even if he doesn't win it in Spring Training, I still like Whitlock. The Red Sox rotation is full of aging veterans with injury histories so I have no doubt he'll get his chances to make an impact and stick in the rotation.

Fades For 2023

Players I don't love at current ADP.

Nobody really qualifies here. The Red Sox don't have many guys going in standard drafts, and even fewer going in the first 10 rounds. I like Devers and am fine with Jansen and Sale's current price.

MLB Breakout Player(s)

Players I like to outperform expectations

Brayan Bello (ADP: 341) - Bello's underlying peripherals hinted at a much better performance than his classic fantasy stats. He isn't projected to make the Opening Day rotation, but Sale, Kluber, and Pivetta haven't been beacons of health and Bello should get a chance early in the season.

Triston Casas (ADP: 238) - His batting average puts some stench on his 2023 value, but Casas can mash and he's some better BABIP luck away from being a Top 5 first basemen.

Favorite Prospects Outside Top 5

Prospects outside of MLB.com's Top 5 that I want to target in dynasty leagues.

Bullpen

Here is how I would rank the arms in the bullpen. This considers a mix of projected role and talent/likelihood of taking over the closers role.
