Colorado Rockies Organization Review

KB and mish mash of what-if's

Colorado Rockies Organization Review

Over the next three weeks, I will be publishing organization overviews for every MLB team. Each post will be a deep dive into all levels of the organization and picking out fantasy relevant nuggets. The primary focus will be at the MLB level and trying to uncover players I want to target in upcoming drafts, but I am playing in a few dynasty leagues and want to try to highlight some players to stash or keep an eye out for upcoming trades.

Picks For 2023

Players I like in fantasy drafts given their current price. All ADPs are from the last two months of NFC data.

Kris Bryant (ADP: 133) - One of my favorite draft day targets, Bryant in Coors Field is a recipe for fantasy greatness if he can just stay healthy. I'm probably reaching for him in the 10th round of 12 team draft, if my pitching staff can afford to wait.

Ezequiel Tovar (ADP: 283) - Tovar is a 21 year old SS prospect who is projected to be the Opening Day starter for the Rockies. If he can hold his own, there's nobody stopping him from hitting leadoff for Colorado and that's the scenario where I think he returns a ton of value. He's a favorite late round flier in drafts, although his stock could take a huge rise or fall depending on his Spring Training performance.

Fades For 2023

Players I don't love at current ADP.

CJ Cron (ADP: 128) - He's caught in-between a weird tier where you could get Rhys Hoskins a little earlier or Christian Walker a little later, and I like both of those guys more than Cron.

Daniel Bard (ADP: 135) - Bard was great last year, but I'm skeptical investing in the 38 year old Rockies closer. They aren't projected to win much in the NL West, and his larger body of work outside of 2022 suggest he's not going to return value at this spot.

MLB Breakout Player(s)

Players I like to outperform expectations

Ryan McMahon (ADP: 212) - If Bryant is healthy and raking, McMahon could be in for a career fantasy year. McMahon has played two full seasons now and while the counting stats have varied drastically, he's hit .250-ish with 20 HRs in each season, which I think could be expected. Bryant could be the missing piece that gets the R/RBI totals up in the 80's again.

Favorite Prospects Outside Top 5

Prospects outside of MLB.com's Top 5 that I want to target in dynasty leagues.

Bladimir Restituyo - Restituyo has an outside shot to develop into a nice top-of-the-order piece for the Rockies. He'll be a fantasy asset on the back of his wheels, but a decent hit tool and a spot atop the batting order could make him a regulator contributor in the future.

Joe Rock - Normally shy away from investing long-term in Rockies pitchers but the farm system is thin. Rock is a lefty starter who reached AA last year and should start there again this year. 24% strikeout rate in Hi-A makes him intriguing arm to watch challenge the upper minioirs.

Bullpen

Here is how I would rank the arms in the bullpen. This considers a mix of projected role and talent/likelihood of taking over the closers role.
