The top of the order is ready to make some noise...
Detroit Tigers Organization Review
Over the next three weeks, I will be publishing organization overviews for every MLB team. Each post will be a deep dive into all levels of the organization and picking out fantasy relevant nuggets. The primary focus will be at the MLB level and trying to uncover players I want to target in upcoming drafts, but I am playing in a few dynasty leagues and want to try to highlight some players to stash or keep an eye out for upcoming trades.
Picks For 2023
Players I like in fantasy drafts given their current price. All ADPs are from the last two months of NFC data.
Austin Meadows (ADP: 259) - He's healthy and slated to hit in the middle of the Detroit lineup. Health will always be a concern, but at this price and his talent level, Meadows looks like a great pick to round out an outfield depth chart.
Alex Lange (ADP: 243) - The Tigers might be better than people think and that means the closer is going to get more opportunities than people think. Lange has a clear hold on the job and decent peripherals. Getting him in the backend of drafts is looking like great value.
Fades For 2023
Players I don't love at current ADP.
Eric Haase (ADP: 284) - He's around 20th in my catcher rankings, which makes him undraftable in standard formats. The power is appealing, but the AVG is such a sink and the playtime will be so sporadic that he isn't worth the 284 ADP.
MLB Breakout Player(s)
Players I like to outperform expectations
Riley Greene (ADP: 209) - Pretty obvious pick here, but Greene looks to be the real deal. Assuming he lands in the Detroit leadoff spot, Greene will contribute across the board.
Kerry Carpenter (ADP: 481) - I have him ranked as the third best Tiger in terms of positionally-adjusted fantasy value. Carpenter was the organization's best hitter in AA and AAA last year and showed well in 113 plate appearances in Detroit. I love him in deeper formats, and expect he'll be a quick waiver wire add to start the year.
Favorite Prospects Outside Top 5
Prospects outside of MLB.com's Top 5 that I want to target in dynasty leagues.
Izaac Pacheco - A third base prospect who projects to have big league, Pacheco is a few years away from a debut, but he should be on your radar today. He played well in Low-A as a 19 year old last season and should start 2023 in Hi-A after a brief stint there to end last season.
Reylin Perez - An 18 year old out of the Dominican Republic, Perez has yet to play stateside, but his tools hint at a future stud. He's a middle infield prospect with pop and someone to stash now in the deepest of formats.
Bullpen
Here is how I would rank the arms in the bullpen. This considers a mix of projected role and talent/likelihood of taking over the closers role.
